It's All About Me
Welcome to my site. I am very excited to be able to share my creative endeavours with you. Please browse through the pages and check out my many different areas of expression in poetry, creative prose, spoken word, video and performance art, watercolours, drawings, textile sculpture and the list goes on…
Although I have had little 'formal' art education, my diverse life experiences have brought me into close contact with many different art makers who have influenced and guided me in my practice. My mother is a wonderful painter and my father is an architect. I grew up in a creatively free environment and was steered by the adults around me to express myself artistically from an early age. I remember that we always had a stack of drawing paper on hand for us kids, whether it was recycled course materials from the university where my father taught architecture or good quality rag when our family could afford it. My sister Auni could draw anything from memory at a very early age and my brother Garth was a gifted technical draughtsman.
When we very young we lived in a little house buried deep in the woods of rural Quebec and we had a slate coffee table that we were encouraged to draw adventures on with coloured chalk. That was fabulous. I still remember the adult guests arriving for cocktails and my mother telling them to be careful with their drinks and not spoil the latest art. What a lovely memory.
I've recently undergone a radical change in lifestyle and with that I've been experimenting with a different medium; hand sewing stuffed textile sculptures. Some of them look like animals, others are more elusive and convey shapes from my imagination. They represent a whole world of three dimensional rendering that helps me to be grounded as I stitch by stitch them, being calm, seeking an inner peace in my forties that is an entirely new adventure for me.
Thanks for looking, live in love and peace…
