Many Different Art Forms

I’ve been experimenting with poetry and the spoken word medium since before I could form sentences properly. Kind of like riding a horse before I could walk. My parents tell me stories about my ability to put thoughts and feelings into words at a young age. I have a deep respect and admiration for women artists and writers Margaret Atwood, Iris Murdoch, Anne Michaels, Ann-Marie MacDonald, Doris Lessing, Barbara Kingsolver oh my I can't possibly list them all here! During a five year period late eighties’ early nineties my partner and I hosted a live radio show every Friday night on the UBC student station CITR; “Cocktails with Daryl and Susi”, and I wrote fresh poetry which I performed live in a ten minute spot every week.

Sometimes I have engaged in what I call “spontaneous poetry” which is a form of spoken word in which I rely solely on my instincts and inner knowledge of language and let the words come out, almost like speaking in tongues, only more articulate. I have done this on stage as well as on radio it is one of the most exhilarating forms of art making for me to this day. Its like hooking up with the great goddess of creativity and letting her flow through me…

I also have been blessed to have a lot of talent in the visual arts. My recent textile sculptures are so weird and wonderful. I have done a lot of watercolours which you can see on this site, and I am prolific in my drawing. I have a collection of over 300 journals filled with drawings, collage, poetry and painting.

I have performed my own work live and on air, and I create a lot these days. Enjoy.
